I feel like Queer Horror is such a growing genre if you're willing to look online rather than in person.(I am saying this as someone who's a fan of horror podcasts with queer characters, though, so my POV is pretty skewed. It *feels* like we're out there.)
But yeah is the group you're trying to get something out of Not Helping? Don't go! *insert Hit Da Bricks skeleton*
Papi, you are so right. TM, don’t volunteer yourself to being bullied by those guys. If there is no writer group that you feel comfortable in and who seeks to encourage yet give genuine critique, then create one because I am sure there are other people with your same dilemma who crave better. Meet somewhere inspiring and you can even bring your own keurig. The possibilities are endless. I would love to read your horror stories. Just be you. HUGS, Papi and TM!
TM, be the nonbinary horror author you want to see in the world, and don't let essay-writing gym bros tell you otherwise. I also love Papi's description of our identities getting entangled with our consumer habits, so that all media is neatly good or bad. That's a real game changer of a concept.
the first thing here that jumped out at me was that it's negatively affecting their self esteem. nothing about being in this writers group gives the participants license to comment on their personal life if they don't want that kind of input. I think it would be entirely reasonable to set a boundary around that, and if the other participants don't respect that boundary, that would be an excellent reason to part ways.
I love horror stories... feed me more. Plus exit stage right. Just the group know that you appreciate their back but this isn't working for you. Next group please or better yet, create a group of your own with simple guidelines everyone can enjoy and be part of, not apart from.

Hola Papi,
I love reading your feedback. Someday I'll muster up my story to share with you and readers but for now, a cup of coffee in hand at my desk in my office reading this article before diving into work.
By the way, I’m sure not one of those guys is a Lord Byron. Plus, not even Lord Byron would have the expertise to critique your work in your genre much less these guys. ‘Those who can, do. Those who can’t, criticize.’ Keep being you!

Right? I'm sure there has to be a discord or two out there for our monster friend.

This is such a great 1-2 read - so good I read it twice. Thank you for such a great start of my day.
Right on!! Or shall I say, "write on"!
