I guess you missed the perfectly narrated Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of Birdemic. I thought that's what you'd be reviewing. One of our favorites.

In a similar vein, I read about a gay "reimagining of Pride and Prejudice" and felt compelled to watch it... because.... Jane Austen. It looks good visually but you guessed it: misshapen story, weird staging, dialogue that doesn't make sense, awkward sexual situations, nonsense plot points, and again no heart. Perhaps this is an unrecognized sub-genre.
In the humor poetry contest that I judge, we are always looking for that essential ingredient that turns "bad poetry" into "poetry so bad it's good". As you suggest, it's got something to do with the amount of effort the creator put in, as well as a mad-scientist level of enthusiasm for their vision. Martin Luther's advice to "Sin boldly!" comes to mind.
